BECKLEY — The body of Mountain State University senior Claudeo Fredrick Mays was found Wednesday morning in Hogan Hall, MSU Interim President Dr. Richard Sours said in a statement Wednesday evening. A Beckley Police officer at the scene Wednesday said there was nothing at that time to indicate foul play or a suspicious death.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, the officer at the scene said that a medical examiner had been called. Sours said in his statement that the death is being investigated and plans to inform the MSU community about further details as they become available.
Sours said Mays was a social work major, a resident adviser, an officer in the Student Government Association and an organizer for Beckley Unplugged. Beckley Police said Wednesday morning that officials were called to scene because it had been a few days since anyone had heard from Mays.
“Our most sincere sympathy is extended to all of Claudeo’s family and friends,” Sours said.
A psychologist will be available for grief counseling in MSU’s JWE Board Room from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and again from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday.
