MORGANTOWN —
A black West Virginia woman who made national news in 2007 after recanting claims she was kidnapped and tortured by a group of white people has been arrested for violating a domestic violence protective order.
Hinton Police Chief Derek Snavely charged 25-year-old Megan Williams with four misdemeanors Tuesday after she threw a can of food at her husband on the street then tried to remove property from the home she’d been ordered to avoid.
She is being held on $10,000 bond at Southern Regional Jail. It was unclear Wednesday whether Williams had an attorney.
Williams also was charged with petty larceny, fleeing on foot and obstructing an officer because she ran to avoid arrest.
Williams’ husband obtained a protective order after Williams’ Aug. 14 arrest for falsely reporting an emergency.
