CHARLESTON —
State public health officials say fewer than 1,400 cases of flu have been confirmed across West Virginia, but they’re continuing to monitor the situation.
Public Health Commissioner Marian Swinker said Friday that flu-like symptoms are widespread, with more than 15,000 people telling doctors they were ill last month and nearly 4,400 reporting they’re sick so far this month.
But as of Friday, only 1,393 case of influenza had been confirmed.
Swinker is encouraging people to get a flu shot and take other precautions to avoid getting sick, such as washing hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs, and discarding used tissues.
Swinker also urges those who are sick to stay home from work or school to prevent the spread of illness.
