Names of those involved in fatal Lewisburg accident released

Lewisburg — State Police have released the victims’ names in the single-vehicle fatal accident Feb. 18 on Stonehouse Road in Lewisburg.

Sgt. W.A. Pendleton, of the Lewisburg Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, confirmed Rosetta Ann Whitt, 63, of Rupert, and Shaelynn Morris, 3, of Dawson, died as a result of the accident.

Whitt was dead at the scene and Morris was transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

On Feb. 19 The Register-Herald also reported that a 2-year-old boy, the driver and another passenger were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and were in stable condition. No update on their conditions were available.

Excessive speed may have been involved in the accident in which the four-door sedan struck a tree and caught fire, police said.

Pendleton said the accident is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
