WVU president warns of possible $12M budget cut

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University could be in for some serious belt-tightening.

At Friday’s Board of Governors meeting, President Jim Clements said that state finances are going to shrink, and WVU has been asked to plan for a 7.5 percent budget cut.

Clements says that translates to about $12 million.

He says it’s too soon to know what the budget will look like, though, and told the board he’ll keep them apprised.

Clements says the good news is that enrollment is strong and tentative figures show it’s higher than last year.

He says there’s a solid increase in minority and international students, but final figures are not yet available.
