CHARLESTON —
Fewer than 15,000 West Virginia homes and businesses remain without power after a series of violent summer storms that began June 29.
Appalachian Power said Wednesday morning it has about 7,800 customers awaiting service, while Mon Power has about 6,400 customers it still must restore.
At the height of the outages, some 680,000 people were without power, many for more than a week. The outages also disrupted water service for 171,000 West Virginia American Water customers.
West Virginia American Water says water service has been restored to all customers. But a small number of sites in remote areas are still using generators for power.
The company says dozens of communications hubs, radio antennas and cables at water storage sites were damaged. Repairs are expected to take several weeks.
