FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville Police cited six businesses in a Feb. 1 underage alcohol sting conducted in conjunction with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Administration (ABCA) at 16 locations.
Businesses cited were Don Patrone Mexican Restaurant, 100 Fayette Town Center Road; D&L Packette, 109 S. Court St.; Diogi’s Mexican Grill & Cantina, 312 N. Court St; Co-Mac #4, 100 Elliott’s Way; Co-Mac #5, 100 Elliott’s Way; and Whitewater Bar & Grill, 103 Elliott’s Way.
The sting was a concerted effort among the agencies to curtail underage alcohol consumption. Undercover officers and agents accompanied underage buyers into the locations, instructing the buyers to attempt to purchase an alcoholic beverage from store clerks or employees at other establishments that sold alcoholic beverages.
If the clerk or employee asked for identification, then the buyer provided their own personal identification, which clearly indicated the buyer was not of a legal age to purchase alcohol. No deception is ever engaged at any time during the sting.
Out of the 16 locations visited, the underage buyer was successful in purchasing alcohol illegally on six occasions. The clerks or employees were charged with selling alcohol to a person under 21 years of age. The businesses may face additional charges or sanctions from the ABCA.
The Fayetteville Police Department and the ABCA will continue their efforts to curtail underage drinking. This sting was coordinated and funded by the Southern Regional Highway Safety Program and the ABCA.
