CHARLESTON —
More than a dozen schools in eastern Kanawha County are closed following a fatal shooting in the area.
Police tell media outlets that the shooting occurred in Rand around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies found the male victim in a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He hasn’t been identified.
Kanawha County Sheriff Johnny Rutherford tells media outlets that police are questioning a person of interest.
No arrests have been made.
Kanawha County school officials initially placed 13 schools in the Rand area on a two-hour delay. The schools then were closed. They include Riverside High School, three middle schools and nine elementary schools.
