CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Kanawha County teenager faces a negligent homicide charge following a wreck that killed a high school football player.
Charleston police tell media outlets that the 15-year-old boy was driving a car that went out of control, hit a utility pole and a tree, and flipped over a hillside. The accident occurred Sunday in Charleston's Kanawha City neighborhood.
A 14-year-old male passenger in the car was ejected. He died at a local hospital.
Police say the victim wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The driver wore a seatbelt and wasn't injured.
Police haven't identified the victim. Media outlets say friends and family held a vigil for him Sunday night at George Washington High School. School officials said he was a freshman student and a member of the football team.
