Va. man gets 30-year sentence in child's death

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — An Albemarle County man convicted of felony murder in the death of a 1-year-old girl will spend 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Camora Wicks died in May 2011 after 20-year-old Ramon M. Turley kicked her. Turley pleaded guilty in January 2012.

Media outlets report that Albemarle County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Higgins sentenced Turley on Wednesday to 40 years in prison with 10 years suspended. Turley also cannot have any unsupervised contact with children after he completes his sentence.

Turley said during the sentencing hearing that the girl's death was an accident.
