Police: Cave Spring man kills estranged wife, self

CAVE SPRING, Va. (AP) — Roanoke County police say a Cave Spring man shot and killed his estranged wife before committing suicide.

The shootings occurred Wednesday night at a home in Cave Spring. Police identified the dead as 49-year-old Ronald W. Billings and 61-year-old Sandra Kay Edwards.

According to The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/QHgoiM ), court records show Billings and Edwards were awaiting hearing to finalize their divorce. Court documents also showed that Edwards had twice requested protective orders against Billings.

The shooting drew a slew of police to the neighborhood, including the Roanoke County SWAT team. Lt. Chuck Mason says that when officers arrived, it wasn't clear how many people were inside the house and involved in the shooting.
