Virginia State Police say a trooper has been shot off of Interstate 85 and a suspect is in custody.
State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told media outlets the trooper exchanged gunfire with the suspect Thursday afternoon. The trooper was taken to the hospital.
Geller says his condition would not be released until his family is notified.
Police shut down a section of Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County south of Richmond after the shooting. The incident occurred at the 45-mile marker. Southbound traffic is being detoured off at Exit 48.
No additional details were immediately available.
