Woman sentenced in Va. for sex trafficking

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A woman who helped bring a 13-year-old runaway girl into Virginia for prostitution has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

Whitney Hayes pleaded guilty last July to conspiracy to transport a minor across state lines for prostitution. She was sentenced Thursday to four years and nine months in federal court in Richmond.

According to prosecutors, Hayes helped another prostitute and their pimp bring the girl from Charlotte, N.C., to the Richmond area to work with them. The adults were arrested at a Henrico County hotel in May 2012.

Korey Jermaine Reynolds and Rachael Masingene also pleaded guilty. Reynolds is serving a 10-year, 10-month sentence. Masingene faces sentencing Feb. 13.
