Va couple hopes pet will be top dog at show

VINTON, Va. — An English springer spaniel bred by a Vinton couple is set to compete at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York.

The dog named Peyton came in as the No. 3 sporting dog in the country at last year's show.

He holds 81 best in show titles and is looking for his 82nd this week, when he returns as one of 2,721 dogs competing for Westminster's top honor.

The Roanoke Times reports  that Peyton is the culmination of Billie and Charlie Kerfoots' 36 years of marriage and 33 years of dog breeding and showing.

He was born at their home and kennel in Vinton.

Peyton has been living with his handler in Michigan for the last two year and travels to dog shows at least every weekend.
