Convicted bank robber escapes from Hampton jail

HAMPTON, Va. — Authorities are searching for a convicted bank robber who escaped from the Hampton Correctional Facility.

Hampton Sheriff’s Office Lt. Alonzo Cherry tells WAVY-TV  that Michael Dontae Stanback escaped Tuesday.

Cherry says the 28-year-old Newport News man received a 14-year sentence on Sept. 5 for robbery, entering a bank armed and two weapons charges.

The charges stem from the robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union in November 2008. Court records show that Stanback was arrested in January.
