Ex-Va. corrections officer pleads to sex crime

STAUNTON, Va. (AP) — A former corrections officer convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor has avoided jail time.

Brian M. Peduto received a five-year suspended sentence and five years' probation after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The News Leader (http://bit.ly/ZIsY6q) reports that the 21-year-old Staunton resident entered his plea and was sentenced Tuesday in August County Circuit Court.

Authorities say Peduto contacted a 12-year-old girl in July and asked her for sex. He resigned from his job at the Augusta Correctional Center in Craigsville in October.
