RAINELLE (AP) — Authorities say six people have been injured in an explosion that destroyed a rural Greenbrier County home.
The 7:13 a.m. Monday blast was followed by a fire that Greenbrier County Deputy Sheriff G.R. Workman says wasn’t fully extinguished until early afternoon. Deputies and investigators from the state Fire Marshal’s Office have started sifting through rubble, but Workman says they haven’t determined what caused the explosion.
All six victims were taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. Workman says five have since been transferred to other facilities.
Greenbrier Valley spokeswoman Melissa Williams says the victims are being treated for injuries ranging from minor to critical.
Five fire departments responded to the explosion and fire.
