NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former Portsmouth police officer has pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing child pornography.
Paul Alonzo Ewing faces five to 10 years on each count when he is sentenced Sept. 25. The 38-year-old Ewing had been free on bond, but he was taken to jail by U.S. marshals after his plea Monday in federal court in Norfolk.
Ewing admitted having images of child pornography on his home computer when he was arrested last fall on state charges of taking indecent liberties with a teenage girl. Prosecutors said they wont pursue the state case now that Ewing has pleaded guilty to three federal felonies.
Ewing served on the Portsmouth police force for about four years until his arrest last fall.
