ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Lynchburg woman has pleaded guilty to a participating in a scheme to steal identities of nine residents of two nursing homes where she was a health-care worker.
U.S. Attorney Julia Dudley said 48-year-old Karen Priscilla Jones pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to eight charges, including aggravated identity theft and wire and mail fraud.
A federal grand jury in April indicted Jones on more than 30 charges.
Prosecutors say Jones participated in a scheme in which Lynchburg nursing home residents’ identities were used to obtain credit accounts, services and merchandise without their authorization.
The victims were residents of The Oaks Assisted Living Facility and Avante Assisted Living Facility.
Jones faces up to 76 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Sept. 21.
