CHARLESTON — Gov. Joe Manchin and lawmakers from both parties have found agreement on paying tribute to Minority Leader Don Caruth.
Manchin presented the Mercer County Republican with the Distinguished West Virginian award Saturday at the Capitol. Manchin singled out Caruth’s dedication and attention to detail during his legislative service.
Caruth has been absent for much of the 2010 session as he battles a recurrence of the brain cancer he was treated for in 2008.
Caruth, who was joined by his family for the ceremony, was present on the floor for most votes of the day. The 59-year-old was first elected to the Senate in 2004, after serving a term in the House of Delegates.
