RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gov. Bob McDonnell has named two new State Board of Education members, including a former state Cabinet official.
Betsy Beamer was secretary of the commonwealth during former Gov. George Allen’s administration from 1994 to 1998. She is a past chair and current member of the Salvation Army of Metro Richmond and has served on the board of Radford University, her alma mater.
McDonnell also appointed former Arlington County School Board Chairman Dave Foster to the board. Foster is a lawyer who served on the Virginia attorney general’s Internet Safety Task Force, which works to protect children against online predators.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.
