Police apologize for explicit sneak peek

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A Missouri police department issued apologies Monday for accidentally posting a photograph of male genitals on the department’s new Facebook page.

“This will never happen again,” police Chief Greg Dagnan of the Carthage Police Department said.

The photograph was inadvertently posted. An employee had intended to select a picture of children playing at a community event.

Dagan said the mistake was immediately realized, and the photo was taken down. He estimated that it was up on the page for about only five seconds.

But Carthage police dispatch received a call from someone who was on the site at the time and saw the photo. A decision was made to post an apology on the Facebook page.

The apology referred to the incident as a “grievous” and “terrible” error.

Dagnan said the potentially offensive photo is evidence in a current investigation, although he declined to identify the type of crime involved.

Details for this story were provided by The Joplin (Mo.) Globe.
