Tigers fight hard, lose two

PRIINCETON — Princeton played their best game of the year against Huntington but lost 57-55 on Feb. 13. The previous evening, the Tigers fell to Nitro 60-51.

Princeton led 13-12 after the first quarter, but went on a scoring drought in the second period to trail the hosts, 28-17. In the second half, the Tigers staged a stirring 11-point comeback, before bowing to the Highlanders.

The Tigers connected on 47 percent of their field goal attempts, a season high. Quwuzie Lee and Tre’ Hopkins both tallied 11 points to key the Tiger attack. Lee connected on three long-range bombs, while Hopkins was 5-of-9 from the field. Tevin Allen and David Brewster each contributed eight points, while Shane Musick hit two three-pointers for six points. Other Tiger scorers were Adam Mills and Ryan Meadows, each with four points, and Sean Williams with three markers.

This game was the first varsity action for Meadows, a freshman. He delivered a solid performance.

The Highlanders’ top scorer was John Wells with 17.



TIGERS—51, NITRO—60

In the second period, the Tigers held a 24-23 advantage, but the Nitro offense surged and they assumed a 36-29 halftime lead. The Wildcats outscored the Tigers in the second half 24-22 to record the win.

Spearheading Princeton’s attack were Tevin Allen who tallied 12 points with two goals from long-range and O. B. Pannell who contributed 11 points. Shane Musick hit two three-pointers and totaled eight points. Adam Mills added seven points, and Robert Redd chipped in six points. Rounding out the scoring were Sean Williams (four points), Tre’ Hopkins (two points), and Darnell Palmer with a foul shot.

The Tigers shot a solid 41 percent from the field and snatched 11 steals, including three by Austin Southcott.

Nitro’s leading scorer was freshman guard Anthony Sarianni, with 13 points.
