PRINCETON — During the past week, the Tigerettes played three contests, winning the last two games. Princeton hosted Hurricane (11-8) on Feb. 3 and defeated the Lady Redskins in a defensive struggle, 48-43. On Feb. 1, home-standing Princeton recorded a 75-67 victory over Nicholas County.
This score was the highest of the season for Princeton surpassing the 73 points the Tigerettes recorded in a win over Woodrow Wilson early in the season. Princeton traveled to South Charleston (17-0) on Jan. 28 and were soundly defeated 63-38 by the powerful Black Eagles quintet. This game marked the Tigerettes’ lowest point total of the season.

HURRICANE—43
The Redskins surged to an early 6-0 lead and led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter. At the half, Hurricane held a 20-18 advantage. The Tigerettes assumed their first lead of game at 23-22. The score was knotted at 29-29 after three quarters.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Princeton was clinging to a precarious 42-40 lead. Krystle White, who was shooting 54 percent from the foul line entering this game, calmly made all six of her free throws to secure the Tigerette victory.
Hurricane outshot the Tigerettes from the field 42 percent to 31 percent. Princeton, however, had 16 more attempts because of controlling the backboards 29-19 ,and committing four fewer turnovers than the visitors. Princeton converted an excellent 79 percent of their foul shots while Hurricane made only a third of their tosses from the charity stripe.
White, a senior, was Princeton’s top scorer with 12 points. Freshman McKenzie “Zee” Akers tallied nine points and connected on a long-range bomb. Senior Brittany “CD” Lankford had an excellent all-around game scoring eight points, snaring seven rebounds, and stealing five passes. Senior Cheyanne Walker tallied seven points and grabbed eight boards. Also scoring for the victors were freshman Hannah Preservati (six points), junior Mary Beth Miller (four points), and Kendria Perkins (two points).
TIGERETTES—75, NICHOLAS COUNTY—67
Princeton avenged an earlier heartbreaking overtime loss to Nicholas County (8-3) with an exciting victory. The win was sweet.
The Tigerettes jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, but Nicholas County responded with a 12-point run to take a 12-4 lead. Princeton rallied to cut their deficit to 17-15 at the end of the first period. In the second quarter, Princeton recaptured the lead at 25-23 and finished the half with a one-point advantage (33-32). The Tigerettes maintained their slim advantage in the third quarter and led 54-53 .Princeton spurted to a 70-60 lead in the final period on their way to registering the hard-fought triumph.
The 75 points was a season high for the Tigerettes. In addition, Princeton shot a season-high sizzling 54 percent from the field. The Grizzlies also shot well connecting on 45 percent including 10 baskets beyond the arc. Nicholas County outrebounded the Tigerettes 30-23, but Princeton held an 18-14 advantage in turnovers.
Krystle White and McKenzie “Zee” Akers shared high-point honors for the winners at 22. Both players connected on a long-range shot. White’s point total tied her career high.
Mary Beth Miller tallied 15 points, a career high, and pulled down eight rebounds. Mary Beth was a “Tigerette on the Boards” and she promptly converted her five offensive rebounds to second-chance goals.
Frontcourt players Cheyanne Walker and Brittany “CD” Lankford were saddled with foul trouble during the game. They both produced six markers.
Completing the scoring for Princeton were Kendria Perkins and Hannah Preservati, both with two points.
The Grizzlies’ junior sharpshooter, Madison Martin, netted seven three-pointers and scored 25 points. Shealyn Shafer added 16 points for the visitors.
TIGERETTES—38, SOUTH CHARLESTON—63
Princeton held the Black Eagles to five of 19 shooting in the first quarter and trailed only 14-13 at the end of the period. South Charleston’s shooters got hot, and the Tigerettes couldn’t match their hosts’ point production.
Aside from this game being the lowest point total for Princeton, the Tigerettes shot only 33 percent from the field and committed 25 turnovers.
Krystle White paced the Princeton attack with 17 points. Other scorers included Cheyanne Walker (9 points), Brittany Lankford (6 points), McKenzie Akers (5 points), and Mary Beth Miller (1 point).
Cheyanne and Brittany turned in good rebounding efforts with 15 and 10 boards, respectively. Cheyanne’s rebound performance was a career high.
KeKe Allen, with 22 points, and Brittany Gordon, with 15 points, sparked the South Charleston offense.
