Players of the week: Allen, Lankford take top honor from Times

PRINCETON — Tevin Allen and Brittany “CD” Lankford are the most recent honorees of the Princeton Times Basketball Player of The Week. Krystle White received special recognition for her outstanding play.

Allen, a junior, was selected Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. This award was based on his performances in the Ripley (Jan. 27) and South Charleston (Jan. 29) contests. A number of other scheduled games were postponed because of the inclement weather.

Allen had two very solid games and led the team in efficiency rating. He totaled 20 points, 19 rebounds, five steals, and four assists for the week.

O.B. Pannell, also a former Player of the Week honoree, garnered runner-up recognition. He led the team in rebounding with 17 boards including 10 in the Ripley game.

Senior co-captain Brittany is the girls’ Player of the Week. She was the efficiency rating leader based on her fine all-around performances in the South Charleston (Jan. 28), Nicholas County (Feb. 1), and Hurricane (Feb. 3) games. She shot 50 percent from the field and paced the team in steals and blocks. Brittany also was the team’s second leading rebounder.

Lankford was a co-captain of the soccer team. In addition, she serves as senior class president, is the reigning Homeoming Queen, and is an Honor Roll student.

Krystle White, a senior co-captain, received special recognition for her outstanding play. For the week, White was the team’s leading scorer. Moreover, her clutch foul shooting in the waning seconds of the Hurricane contest was instrumental in propelling the Tigerettes to victory.

White is a multitalented athlete. She was co-captain of the volleyball team and is a mainstay on the softball squad. She is an Honor Roll student.

McKenzie Akers, Cheyanne Walker, and Mary Beth Miller also had fine performances during the week. Akers, a two-time honoree, scorched the nets for 22 points on sensational eight of 11 shooting from the field in the Ripley contest.

Walker, another former Player of the Week, led the team in rebounding including a career high 15 boards against South Charleston.

Miller shot 60 percent from the field in the three games and had a career high 15-point game against Nicholas County.

Player of the Week recognition is based primarily on an efficiency rating. The calculations are based on the following formula: efficiency rating equals the sum of positive factors (points + rebounds + steals + assists + blocks) less sum of negative factors (turnovers + missed field goals + missed foul shots).
