Aug. 13

• DRIVING ON A REVOKED LICENSE: Sgt. B.R. Woodard was waved down by a Mercer deputy who advised he had just seen a blue motorcycle nearly strike three stop signs and travel very erratically. The driver was allegedly a white male with a white T-shirt wrapped around his head and a full-back tattoo. Woodard located the suspect vehicle on Honaker Avenue and observed that there was no registration on the vehicle. He also reported that the motorcycle was still traveling erratically and swerving from side to side. Alvin Wise, 46, of Bluefield, was arrested.

Aug. 15

• DOMESTIC BATTERY: Ptlm. B.E. Grimm responded to Princeton Moose Lodge, where an altercation was reported.  Officers made contact with the complainant, victim and witnesses, who stated that the 47-year-old female involved attacked a 60-year-old man while he was sitting at the bar. The victim and a witness also stated that the woman scratched his face and neck, bringing blood to the surface of the man's skin.  Diana Elgin, 47, was charged with domestic battery.

• DOMESTIC BATTERY: Ptlm. J.S. Bish and Sgt. B.R. Woodard responded to a dispute reported in the alley behind Virginia Hardware involving an individual allegedly sitting on the porch with a gun. They did not locate anyone at the home in question and proceeded to search the general area around Virginia Hardware, where witnesses directed them to the parties involved. On West Street, officers located a woman, who said she and her boyfriend fought and that he had left, heading toward Mercer School. Officers found him sitting on a bench near the school, where he reportedly told officers he borrowed his girlfriend's phone because the battery in his died. Upon doing so, he allegedly found a text message from another man. When he asked the girlfriend about the message, she allegedly became angry, grabbing the headboard of the bed and hitting him in the right eye, causing it to swell and become bloody with a laceration. He alleged that she hit him with a baseball bat as well. Officers then returned to the house to talk with the woman, who was “very upset, crying and uncooperative with officers.” The left side of her face was visibly swollen and puffy, and her lower lip was also swollen and bloody. The woman was reportedly uncooperative and did not want to pursue charges. Both parties said they would refuse to cooperate when the case went to court. Derick Johnson, 32, of Princeton, was arrested. Warrants were pending against the female.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Ptlm. T.A. Bailey responded to Mercer Street, where a complainant reported a broken window. The officer located the suspect, who advised he broke the window accidentally as he attempted to knock on it to get someone's attention inside. Christopher Northrup, 24, of Matoaka, was cited for destruction of property.

• PETIT LARCENY: Officers responded to Highland Avenue, where a Mini Chopper was reported stolen. Ptlm. J.D. Lambert filed the report.

• PETIT LARCENY: Ptlm. D.A. Weatherly responded to Highland Avenue, where a complainant reported a tire and rim stolen.

• BREACH OF PEACE: Officers responded to Kee Street, where a man was reported attempting to gain entry to his ex-wife's home. While en route, officers were notified that the man had made entry and was in possession of a knife. According to a report by Lt. P.W. Hill, the man fled the scene before officers arrived, but a witness there advised he said he planned to use the knife to kill someone he was having problems with. Officers located him in a nearby alley, appearing intoxicated but not in the possession of a knife or weapon. The complainant advised she did not wish to pursue charges. Officers transported the man to a residence on Murdock Avenue and advised him not to return to Kee Street. About 15 minutes later, the man returned to the same residence. Alvin Wise, 46, of Princeton, was arrested on a breach of peace charge.

Aug. 16

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: A complainant reported that someone broke the latch to her sunroof to her vehicle in an attempt to gain entry. The glass reportedly got stuck, which prohibited entry but still left the vehicle damaged.

• DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Officers responded to Kee Street, where a man was reported breaking into his wife's car. The complainant reported she had filed for her divorce and that the husband had just found out. He then allegedly began screaming at the wife and beating on the car.  The suspect then reportedly broke a taillight, removed the inspection sticker and broke the registration plate. Lt. P.W. Hill advised the woman to seek a domestic violence protective order, and she reported that she intended to do so.

Aug. 17

• BREACH OF PEACE: Officers responded to Shop View Avenue, where a man was reported at the residence and refusing to leave. Lt. P.W. Hill reported the man had been advised to leave earlier in the night and warned that if he returned, he would be arrested. The man was allegedly intoxicated and told officers to “take me to jail.” David Cecil, 40, of Princeton, was arrested.
