Nov. 17
• BURGLARY: Dep. J.R. Coburn responded to a possible burglary in progress at Woody's Mobile Home Park. The resident of the home reported she returned home to find a window had been broken and that it appeared her residence had been entered. A witness next door advised Coburn that she knew the suspect and directed the officer to his home. There, Coburn reported that the suspect spontaneously told him he didn't break a window at the complainant's home but was instead trying to fix one that was already broken. Based on his statement as well as that of the witness and complainant, James Darrell Clark, 22, of Bluefield, was charged with burglary.
Nov. 20
• HIT & RUN WITH INJURY, DRIVING SUSPENDED, FAILURE TO GIVE INFORMATION AND RENDER AID, FAILURE TO YIELD: Dep. M.S. Horn responded to a motor vehicle accident on U.S. 52 in Brushfork, where he found only one of the vehicles involved was still at the scene. Occupants of the vehicle reported a red Chevrolet S-10 had pulled out from a business and struck their Blazer in the rear passenger side. The driver of the S-10 then allegedly pulled over nearby, let a male passenger out and continued leaving the scene. Mercer Control advised the officer witnesses reported a female walking nearby with blood on her face and that the vehicle was spotted in Sister's Mobile Home Park. Horn located the suspected driver on Perdue Hollow Road and reported a strong odor of alcohol on her person. She also allegedly failed field sobriety testing, but she was released to Bluefield Rescue Squad and Bluefield Regional Medical Center for treatment due to injuries sustained in the crash. The officer contacted the suspect, Tonya Williams, 38, of Princeton, and issued citations for the listed charges. Other charges were pending.
• FAILURE TO REPORT EARNINGS: Dep. E.P. Parks arrested Charles R. Daniels, 52, of Princeton, when he turned himself in on warrants alleging he failed to report earnings.
• SHOPLIFTING: Cpl. S.A. Sommers investigated a shoplifting case at Princeton Walmart. Employees there advised they witnessed a woman conceal more than $47 in merchandise and attempt to leave without paying for it. Dana Marie Willis, 24, of Bluefield, Va., was cited for shoplifting.
Nov. 21
• DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Cpl. S.A. Sommers responded to Bluewell, where a domestic disturbance was reported between a husband and wife. The woman advised her husband had fled into the woods with two of her children, ages 4 and 5. West Virginia State Police Trooper Baker searched the area for the husband and children, while Sommers spoke with the woman. She reported the man had drawn his hand back to strike her, but he allegedly did not hit her. About an hour later, Sommers located the man and children in a nearby parking lot. He escorted the children home and charged Mike Zion, 28, of Bluefield, with domestic assault.
Nov. 22:
• PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.D. Ellison received a complaint from a man who reported rings were discovered missing from his Mercer County home shortly after his daughter stayed in the home. The daughter allegedly told the father she took the rings to have them engraved as a Christmas present, but the man reportedly did not believe the story.
• OBTAINING BY FALSE PRETENSE: Dep. W.E. Rose responded to Rocky Branch Road, where a man advised three other men broke the side glass to an older model Chevy pickup truck, loaded it onto a tow dolly and towed the vehicle down the road. As the officer arrived to detain the men, they reported they had purchased two trucks from a woman for $130 apiece. When two women appeared in the woods nearby, the men advised one was the woman who sold the trucks. After questioning both women, Rose charged Tammy Johnson 43, of Rocky Branch Road, with obtaining by false pretenses, based on the allegations that she sold property that wasn't hers to sell. Tina Rose, 27, of Princeton, was charged with simple possession after the deputy reported finding controlled substances in her possession.
• VIOLATION OF A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PETITION: Dep. J.D. Gills responded to Shady Oaks Mobile Home Park, where a man reported he and his girlfriend were arguing over who she was talking to on the phone. While they argued, the man alleged he suffered from a panic attack. The complainant advised she was texting a friend when her boyfriend started “flipping out.” During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that an active domestic violence protective order was in place against the man. Matthew Thomas Hardwick, 21, of Pasadena, Md., was charged.
Nov. 23
• PETIT LARCENY: Sgt. G.W. Woods received a complaint from a Lakeland Park man, who stated his wallet was taken from his home last weekend.
• BATTERY: A man reported he was attempting to help his grandmother find missing jewelry when he was attacked by a 14-year-old male. Dep. E.P. Parks filed a report, noting that he was forwarding the case to juvenile authorities.
• BURGLARY, PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.D. Gills received a report from a Sherman Oaks Mobile Home Park woman advising a small laptop was taken from her residence.
• SHOTS FIRED: Sgt. S.J. Cary responded to Montcalm, where a newspaper carrier reported someone fired a single shot at him when he exited his vehicle to put a paper into a box. The man also reported up to six dark-colored SUVs with government registrations and men wearing black attire and ski masks approached him. One man allegedly advised him to leave the area as quickly as possible. The man advised the officer all this happened just before 3 a.m., because he had just tried to call his district manager to report he was not going to finish his route that day. Cary searched the area but did not locate anyone with a firearm or the reported government vehicles matching the complainant's description.
Nov. 24
• SHOPLIFTING: Dep. W.E. Rose cited Jeremy Jason White, 35, of Pipestem, after employees at Princeton Walmart alleged he attempted to shoplift two DVDs from the store.
• GRAND LARCENY: Dep. M.S. Horn responded to Duck Pond Road, where a resident reported someone removed a lock box from a closet drawer and put it inside a garbage container, apparently without breaking into the home. The complainant reported the box had once contained approximately $50,000 in cash, the vast majority of which was allegedly taken. Horn forwarded the case to the detective bureau.
