• SUSPICIOUS PERSONS: A Littlesburg woman reported two suspicious vehicles approached her home. Dep. J.E. Coulter noted that the woman described the vehicles as a beat-up, white pick-up truck that appeared to have the words “Animal Control” stenciled on the vehicle and a black Geo Tracker that had been stenciled to read “911.” The woman reported the driver of the truck told her he was investigating a report of barking dogs in the area and inquired about the wireless electrical fence she used to confine her Doberman pinscher. The woman worried the men were either planning to steal her dog or casing the residence for future crimes. Coulter contacted the Mercer County Animal Shelter and 911 Emergency Control Center and noted that no vehicles matching those descriptions were in use for their departments.
• VIOLATION OF DVP, DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, DRIVING SUSPENDED: Cpl. S.A. Sommers responded to a “rolling” domestic dispute involving two vehicles. Mercer 911 reported that the complainant alleged a woman was trying to ram his vehicle. While Sommers was en route, 911 operators reported hearing the complainant's vehicle get struck. Sommers and Dep. J.R. Coburn located the vehicles. The suspect denied striking the complainant's Tahoe with her Alero, but she could not explain why she was following the complainant. Meanwhile, the complainant told officers the impact had occurred near the intersection of U.S. 460 and Mercer Mall Road, where the woman allegedly pulled to the right of his vehicle and swerved to strike the front end. Officers observed the damage and arrested Sara C. Riley, 30, of Bluefield. During processing, Sommers also reported finding that both the complainant and the suspect were petitioners and respondents in domestic violence protective orders and that the suspect was driving on a suspended license.
• PETIT LARCENY: A Rosewood Drive man reported someone entered his vehicle parked in front of his home and stole a DVD monitor. Dep. C. Williams filed the report.

• OBSTRUCTING: Lt. J.E. Parks responded to a report of a man creating a disturbance in the showroom of Andy Clark Ford. The man in question told Parks he had a problem with some vehicle maintenance conducted on a vehicle he had just purchased. The man reported he had a hearing problem due to long-term work in the mines and had a bad habit of pointing his cane at people while he spoke. Parks advised him that could be considered a threat and asked the man to step outside the showroom to continue their discussion. The man then allegedly began yelling at the officer and passersby, telling them to take their business elsewhere. At one point, Parks said the man told him to “Take me to jail … I want you to.” When the man continued to persist in yelling at people, Parks advised him he was under arrest. Carlos Wade McPeak, 59, of Camp Creek was charged with obstructing. Parks noted he was very cooperative and apologetic throughout processing.
• SHOPLIFTING: Cpl. S.A. Sommers and Dep. J.R. Coburn responded to Sears in Mercer Mall, where employees reported seeing two subjects conceal multiple pieces of merchandise and attempt to leave the store. The merchandise value was recorded at $228.96. Anthony Vandyke, 48, of War, and Ottie D. Whistlehunt, 36, of Berwind, were cited for shoplifting.
• DOMESTIC BATTERY: Lt. J.E. Parks responded to Browning Lambert Road, where a complainant reported she had been beaten by a man at the residence the previous night and again that day. Parks noted that both of the woman's eyes were swollen and bruised and that she had a red scratch above her left eye. At that time, however, both the man and the woman reported that the injuries were not sustained during a fight between the two of them. Faced with conflicting reports, the officer opted not to issue an arrest, but he did advise the woman of the domestic violence protective order process. She allegedly said she didn't need one.
Nov. 9
• FAILURE TO REPORT AN ACCIDENT: Dep. W.E. Rose responded to Bluecourt Road in Bluewell, where a vehicle had been abandoned. The officer found a red Colorado in the ditch that appeared to have wrecked and rolled onto its top. While the officer awaited a tow truck to remove the vehicle, a man who said he was the driver's father arrived in a roll-back truck. The officer then located the driver, Timothy D. Osborn, 35, of Bramwell, and charged him with failure to report an accident.
• PETIT LARCENY: Maj. D.B. Bailey received a complaint from a man who reported a female friend of his son had been staying at his residence in Breeze Hill Mobile Home Park. On Nov. 7, the female allegedly left to stay with her sister, and shortly thereafter, the complainant reported discovering a firearm and truck key were missing. Bailey requested that the firearm information be entered in the National Crime Information Center database and that the case be forwarded to day shift patrol units and the detective bureau.
