July 5

• POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, NO INSURANCE, IMPROPER REGISTRATION: While patrolling the White Oak Road area, Dep. M.S. Horn reported seeing a gray Chevy Blazer, with an expired inspection sticker and a license plate hanging by a single bolt. The registration was listed for another vehicle at the DMV office. Horn then continued the investigation, searching one of the vehicle's occupants and allegedly locating a substantial quantity of Dilaudid and cash. A marijuana pipe and scales were also located inside the vehicle. William Michael Mills, 37, of Princeton, and Joe Strattis, 20, of Linwood, were arrested.

• DOMESTIC BATTERY: Dep. J.D. Gills responded to a domestic complaint on Skating Rink Hollow Road, where a woman reported her boyfriend struck her in the face with his fist and slapped her in the back of the head several times. She advised the suspect was extremely intoxicated. The officer located the boyfriend at a house in the area, and found him drinking another beer and unable to stand. Steven M. Webb, 32, of Bluefield, was arrested on a charge of domestic battery, as well and an unrelated, outstanding warrant.

July 6

• DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Dep. J.R. Coburn responded to a domestic complaint at Restwood Apartments in the Brushfork area. A later report indicated the woman had been attacked and robbed at the nearby Joy Food Mart, but the woman told the officer privately that the man inside had struck her after she was “cheated” out of cash during a drug deal at the store. Jonathan Ray Graham, 27, of Brushfork, was arrested.

• BREAKING AND ENTERING: A complainant on Pilot Street in Princeton reported that someone broke into his outbuilding and stole more than $1,000 in tools. Dep. W.E. Rose investigated and filed the report.

• HIT AND RUN, FAILURE TO REPORT ACCIDENT: A juvenile reported riding a motorcycle on trails off of Hurricane Ridge Road, where he allegedly collided with a full-size red truck. The impact of the crash reportedly left the juvenile's motorcycle in three pieces and injured the boy. The occupants of the truck reportedly allowed him to ride in the back of their truck to the juvenile's dad's home, at which time they left the scene. The case remained under investigation.

July 8

• DUI, NO OPERATORS: Dep. A.M. Ballard responded to West Virginia Route 20, just outside of Athens, where a Concord University Police Officer reported a vehicle stuck in a ditch. As the Concord officer spotted the vehicle and began to investigate the scene, the driver allegedly aggressively pulled out of the ditch and fled north on Route 20. The CU officer later located the vehicle as the driver exited the vehicle at an apartment complex. The CU officer and Ballard spoke with the subject, who appeared to be intoxicated and did not have a valid operator's license. The suspect, Cassandra Marie Johnson, 20, of Alderson, allegedly failed to submit a sufficient sample for a blood alcohol test and reportedly failed field sobriety testing. Ballard reported finding a bottle of vodka with half of the liquid missing inside the center console of the vehicle. Johnson was charged with DUI and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: An Old Pisgah Road resident reported someone had damaged a vehicle and a rocking chair. Sheriff D.B. Meadows and Dep. A.M. Ballard investigated, noting that it appeared as if someone had tried to use the chair to pry open the window of a vehicle.
