Aug. 7

• SIMPLE POSSESSION: Ptlm. B.E. Grimm conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer on Stafford Drive. While talking with the driver, the officer reported seeing a bag of a green leafy substance resembling marijuana inside. Andrew Vodros, 20, of Princeton, was cited for simple possession and released.

• PETIT LARCENY: A Fifth Street complainant reported that someone stole a hedge trimmer from an outbuilding at her home and pawned it. The pawn slip indicated the suspect pawned the item in his girlfriend's name, but the suspect was already in custody on another matter by the time the complainant filed this report. Ptlm. W.M. Bradley investigated.

• SHOPLIFTING: Ptlm. C.S. Winkler responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Dollar General Store on Stafford Drive. The complainant reported seeing a woman stuff merchandise in her bag and exit the store. The officer found the black bag in the passenger seat of her vehicle. The stolen items tallied $13.89. Angela Reed, 42, of Iaeger, was cited for shoplifting.

Aug. 8

• DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Officers responded to Bluefield Avenue, where a complainant reported he wanted his wife to leave the residence because she threw a trashcan at him. According to a report by Lt. P.W. Hill, the woman admitted she threw the can but not at him and that he was not hit with it. The woman left the residence, and both subjects said they would talk the matter over later.

Aug. 9

• DUI, DRIVING SUSPENDED, PERMITTING DUI: While patrolling Ingleside Road, Sgt. T.A. Gray reported seeing a vehicle pull abruptly to the side of the road. Upon investigating, the officer found both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle to be intoxicated, and the passenger appeared to need medical attention. The driver allegedly advised he had been to Southern Exposure, where he had “a few to drink.” Princeton Rescue Squad examined the passenger and advised he did not appear to have alcohol poisoning. Both subjects were transported to PPD, where officers learned they both had suspended driver's licenses. The driver, Eddie Dean Carver Jr., 24, of Rocky Gap, Va., was charged with DUI and driving suspended. The passenger's condition appeared to deteriorate, and he was transported to Princeton Community Hospital for observation. Warrants were pending for him.

Aug. 9

• SHOPLIFTING, TRESPASSING, OBSTRUCTING AN OFFICER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, BATTERY ON AN OFFICER: Lt. P.W. Hill stopped at Grant's on Main Street for dinner. As he was leaving, the officer notice a subject in the produce section of the store that he knew to be banned from the establishment for shoplifting. Hill reported that he saw the suspect hiding something in his pants and heard the sound of bottles hitting together as the suspect moved. As the man attempted to evade the officer, a bottle of beer fell out of his pants. When Hill advised the man he was under arrest, the suspect allegedly hit him with his chest and cursed at the officer. Copley was also reportedly found to be in possession of another bottle of beer and an empty package of batteries. Copley, 21, address unknown, was arrested.

Aug. 10

• OPEN CONTAINER: Chief W.L. Harman reported seeing Bobby Barrett, 29, of Princeton, laying on the Town Square stage with an open beer bottle beside him. Barrett was cited and advised not to return to the stage.

Aug. 11

• BREACH OF PEACE: Officers responded to Kroger, where they saw Bobby Barrett, 29, of Princeton, in the checkout line. Witnesses reported that Barrett was observed tossing things about in the aisles of the store. He allegedly did not conceal items. Barrett was arrested.
