June 18
• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, PETIT LARCENY: Dep. D.A. Furches responded to a report of vandalized soda machines in front of Four Seasons Pharmacy. The damage to the two machines was estimated to be approximately $100. The cash lost when the subject(s) stole the money inside was estimated at $1.
• PETIT LARCENY: A complainant at Coppolo's Mobile Home Park advised Cpl. S.A. Sommers that he left his laptop computer on his porch accidentally on May 29. When he realized what he had done, the complainant called a neighbor, who advised the computer had been taken. The officer contacted local pawn shops and notified them to be on the lookout for the computer.
• SHOPLIFTING: Dep. J.E. Coulter responded to a report of shoplifting at J.C. Penney in the Mercer Mall. An employee there reported seeing a woman take several items of clothing into the dressing room and emerge with none of them. He reported, however, that her purse was larger when she came out of the dressing room. Shondda Allen, 26, of Fayetteville, was charge with third-offense shoplifting.
• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.D. Gills received a report from a Carnation Lane resident indicating someone cut an outdoor trampoline while the family was out of town. The complainant also advised that two bicycles were missing from the residence.
• ASSAULT ON AN OFFICER, SIMPLE POSSESSION: Cpl. S.A. Sommers and other officers responded to the Oakvale area, where Giles County, Va., office were in pursuit of a suspect driving a white pickup truck and wanted in connection with a domestic complaint. The suspect allegedly crashed his truck near Goodwin's Chapel Road and fled on foot. Dep. J.D. Gills reported finding several pill bottles inside the crashed vehicle, and they allegedly contained three different forms of controlled substances. Officers detained the suspect, and Sommers advised him he was under arrest for possession of controlled substances. The man allegedly cursed the officers present, attempted to break Sommers' finger and spat blood present from an injury into the face of West Virginia State Police Trooper Martin. Once officers had the suspect cuffed and inside Sommers' cruiser, he allegedly persisted in banging his head against a window in an attempt to break it. When Martin opened the door to prevent breakage, the man again allegedly spat blood on him and began kicking him. Sommers reported using pepper spray to force the man to stop assaulting officers. Afterward, he allegedly apologized to the officers and became compliant with their instructions. With officers uncertain as to the extent of his injuries, Sommers contacted emergency medical officials, who transported the man for treatment. Michael Wayne Ray, 34, of Princeton, was later arrested.
June 19
• BREAKING AND ENTERING: Det. R.M. Combs responded to a breaking and entering at Woody's Machine Shop on Moles Chapel Road. The suspect allegedly enlarged a hole in the structure created for a stove pipe and entered the building. A can opener, a stocking and a pocket knife were located at the scene and believed to have been left behind by the suspect. The investigation was ongoing.
• SIMPLE POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: Dep. J.E. Coulter responded to the parking lot of Pepperidge Apartments, where possible drug dealing was reported. The suspect vehicle reportedly left the area while the officer was en route, but the Coulter located it at Melrose Square. The occupant of the vehicle appeared very nervous, shaking and unable to speak clearly. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered several indicators of drug use, including plastic baggies, scales and approximately one gram of marijuana. The woman inside the vehicle was determined to be the owner of the vehicle. Janna Leigh Riggins, 24, of Thorpe, was cited for simple possession of the drug found in the center console.
June 20
• DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Sgt. S.J. Cary responded to Ceres Hollow Road, where he found a woman walking along the road. The officer reported she smelled of alcohol and was argumentative, despite the fact that she reported the alleged assault. She reported her father and ex-husband slapped her and shoved her to the ground. Cary and Dep. W.E. Rose followed the woman home. As officers talked with the woman's father and ex-husband, she reportedly rushed into the room and verbally attacked her ex-husband, making threats. Cary reported that she appeared to be taunting her ex-husband, possibly in the hopes of getting him to hit her. Diedra Lynn Collins, 47, of Denison, Texas, was arrested.
• BURGLARY, PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.D. Gills investigated a report of a burglary at an Elmore Street home. The complainant reported that she returned home to find a DVD movie and money from her daughter's piggy bank missing. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau.
• BATTERY: Dep. J.R. Coburn responded to a report of an altercation at Princeton Village Apartments. The complainant reported that a male at his residence had physically attacked him before fleeing the area on foot. The complainant said he did not want to pursue charges, but he did allegedly want the suspect to stay away from him. Less than an hour later, the officer was called back to the scene, where another altercation was allegedly in progress. As Coburn investigated, the suspect allegedly yelled that he wanted to go to jail because he had bail money. The officer talked with a witness, who reported seeing both men strike each other. Eddie Washington, 34, of Princeton, and Dereck Price, 21, of Princeton, were both arrested.
June 22
• DRIVING REVOKED FOR DUI: Dep. W.E. Rose was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 52. The driver of the vehicle was found to be driving on a license revoked for DUI convictions. Lewarren Hadley, 29, of Chinle, Ariz., was charged.
• SHOPLIFTING, TRESPASSING: Dep. E.P. Parks responded to J.C. Penney, where an employee reported seeing a suspect enter the dressing room with a stack of clothes on top of a baby stroller. When she exited the dressing room, the clothes were not visible, and she was detained. Further investigation allegedly revealed more than $200 in clothing she attempted to take out of the store without paying for. The 14-year-old female was cited for shoplifting and released to the custody of a family member.
