Woods responded to Go Mart in Green Valley, where a white male was reported stealing several items from the store and leaving in a white vehicle with a homemade license plate. Witnesses said the man had trouble standing up on his own and seemed “out of it” before he left the scene going toward Mercer Mall Road. Ellison located the address associated with the license plate number and was at the residence when the suspect arrived home. A search of his person allegedly revealed cash, a snort straw with a white, powdery substance inside and a white pill believed to be a Lortab. The man said he had a prescription for the pill, but the officers reported finding it loose inside his pocket. After searching the car, the officers did not locate stolen property from the Go Mart, but Ellison reported he believed the suspect either swallowed or destroyed the pill located during a search of his clothing, because it disappeared from the scene. When Ellison asked the suspect to see his prescription bottle, he allegedly said he had thrown the bottle away. Jody Lee Scott, 22, of Bluefield, was placed under arrest for a series of charges at that time.
