Feb. 19

• BRANDISHING:
Major D.B. Bailey received a 911 call indicating a black male wearing a white ball cap and blue jeans had brandished a firearm outside Macado's in Mercer Mall. Employees pointed to a suspect matching that description, and the officer located an unloaded firearm under a table near the suspect. Charles B. Mitchell, 23, of Bluefield, was arrested and allegedly later told officers he only brandished his firearm because another male pulled his gun.

• POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER: Dep. E.P. Parks received a telephone report from a Hinton Police officer, who advised a female had just been arrested for an alleged drug charge and a capias warrant. The female reportedly told officers that she had been to a residence off Thorn Street in Princeton and had purchased drugs there. Parks went to the scene and determined the address would be on Kirk Street. He sought a search warrant, which Magistrate Mike Flanigan approved. On Feb. 20, several officers executed the search warrant, reportedly locating a cellophane packet of two pills not currently considered a controlled substance, a tablet believed to be Xanax, more than $1,000 in cash, two ledgers of alleged drug transactions and four firearms. William David Franklin, 24, of Princeton, was arrested.

• ASSAULT ON AN OFFICER, HARBORING VICIOUS ANIMAL, OBSTRUCTING/ RESISTING AN OFFICER: Cpl. S.A. Sommers was dispatched to Kegley Trestle Road, where a complainant reported a vicious dog attempting to attack a family. Dep. J.D. Gills and Dep. J.R. Coburn responded as well. Officers observed a large, white dog that appeared to be a Great Pyrenees running around, and complainants said the animal had behaved aggressively toward the family. Sommers advised a male who said he owned the dog to retrieve his dog, and the man allegedly said he was trying to. As Sommers advised the man that he could not let his dog run loose due to its side and aggressive nature, the man allegedly became very angry and belligerent with Sommers. Harry Allan Amann, 67, of Kegley, allegedly resisted arrest as officers tried to calm him, prompting a short burst of pepper spray. He was detained.

Feb. 20

• OBSTRUCTING AN OFFICER, UNDERAGE CONSUMPTION:
Dep. G.C. Paitsel and Dep. A.M. Ballard responded to Airport Road, where a motor vehicle crash was reported. While en route, officers were advised that a driver had fled the scene but a passenger was still present. Officers continued to the scene and talked with a male subject, who advised he had gotten a ride in the vehicle and was going back to Kamikaze Bar in Brushfork. Officers released the subject for medical treatment. A short while later, 911 received a complaint from a woman who wanted to file a report of a stolen vehicle. She was also at Kamikaze and told officers she must have lost her keys, because she could not find them. The investigation later revealed that the woman allegedly gave her keys to a male subject so he could go outside and drink a beer in the car. The male then allegedly took the car and the passenger who was at the crash scene from the bar lot. Officers arrested April Dawn Piersall, 18, of Montcalm, on a charge of filing a false report and obstructing. Jeremy Blake Lawrence, 19, of Princeton, was arrested for obstructing and underage consumption.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, BATTERY: Dep. A.M. Ballard responded to Foy Bypass, where a male was reported causing a disturbance. The complainant advised that a man had broken a window out of his residence, had struck him in the face and caused a disturbance at his residence. The suspect had reportedly been picked up by a relative before Ballard arrived.

• ASSAULT, BATTERY: Cpl. S.A. Sommers received an intake report from a complainant who advised that a man attempted to hit him with a truck, struck him with a vehicle door and choked him by pulling on the hood of his shirt while in the Walmart parking lot in Princeton. The officer contacted Walmart officials and asked that they review surveillance video. Managers were unable to locate such an incident, and Sommers reported the case was considered closed.

Feb. 21

• SHOPLIFTING:
Dep. A.M. Ballard and Dep. G.C. Paitsel responded to Walmart on Greasy Ridge Road, where a complainant reported he caught a male shoplifting three pairs of blue jeans. The suspect allegedly removed all the tags and attempted to smuggle the jeans out of the store in his overalls. After searching the suspect's vehicle, officers also found two socket sets, one steering wheel cover and a set of car accessory items inside that allegedly came from the store. Daniel Joseph Shrader, 25, of Tazewell, Va., was issued a citation for shoplifting and released.

Feb. 22

• COUNTERFEIT MONEY:
Lt. J.E. Parks responded to a report of a counterfeit $20 being found in a register at McDonald's. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau.

• DRIVING SUSPENDED, SHOPLIFTING, FAILURE TO PAY FOR GAS: Dep. E.P. Parks responded to Village Store, where a male allegedly pumped $5 in gas, picked up a Little Debbie Cake and a can of Coca-Cola and left without paying for any of the items. The officer placed a be-on-the-lookout order for the suspect, who was driving a black pickup truck. Sheriff D.B. Meadows located the suspect and initiated a traffic stop. Gregory Clifford Dickerson, 39, of Princeton, was arrested.

• DUI WITH BODILY INJURY, LEFT OF CENTER: Dep. J.D. Gills responded to Maple Acres Road, where a two-vehicle crash was reported. Gills reported seeing a red Pontiac Grand Prix and a Honda Accord, both severely damaged. Further examination of the scene allegedly revealed that one of the drivers appeared to be intoxicated, and officers found a beer can protruding from the purse of his passenger. The driver of the second car suffered two broken legs and a shattered knee. A passenger in the second vehicle suffered a broken collar bone. Subpoenas and warrants were pending.

Feb. 24

• BURGLARY, GRAND LARCENY:
A resident of Route 5 reported the door of a neighbor's home had been kicked in and that several items were missing. Dep. W.E. Rose filed the report and noted the investigation was ongoing.

• DISORDERLY CONDUCT, OBSTRUCTING AN OFFICER: Sgt. S.J. Cary arrested Shenalla Miller, 35,of Princeton, after she allegedly lashed out when probable cause was found in the drug case involving her son. After advising the woman several times to calm down, Cary reported he told the woman she was under arrest, at which time, she allegedly attempted to flee and forcibly tried to jerk her arm away from him to avoid arrest. Meanwhile, the woman's 15-year-old son attempted to intervene and keep Cary from detaining his mother. Troopers then stepped in and detained the 15-year-old suspect, who allegedly fought violently.
