GRUNDY, Va. —
Rodney Dean McClanahan, 54 years of age, of the Slate Creek section of Grundy, Va., passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Va. Born September 6, 1958 in Richlands, Va., he was the son of Bonnie Osborne McClanahan of Grundy, Va. and the late Bransome McClanahan.
He was a retired employee of Verizon Telephone Company after thirty-three years of service, loved to golf, was an avid Raiders fan and enjoyed hunting and shopping. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather.
Survivors in addition to his mother, Bonnie Osborne McClanahan, include one daughter, Camelia Davis and husband Nick of Grundy, Va.; one stepson, Richie Lester of Grundy, Va.; one sister, Frances Elaine Looney and husband Dank of Grundy, Va.; one brother, Orvin Douglas McClanahan and wife Shelia of Cedar Bluff, Va.
He is also survived by his grandson, Hayden Garret Davis.
Funeral services for Rodney Dean McClanahan will be conducted at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy, Va., Monday, March 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Evangelist Mike Rife officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of Mountain Top Golf Course and the employees of Verizon Telephone Company.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, March 3, 2013 after 6:00 p.m. with evening services at 7:00 p.m.
In honoring Rodney’s wishes, he will be cremated.
