FALLS MILLS, Va. —
Charles Edward Bowman, age 72, of Falls Mills, Va., passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, W.Va., from complications of long term diabetes. Born August 8, 1940 at Horsepen in McDowell County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Edward Lee Bowman and Grace Whitman Bowman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an auto mechanic and truck driver. Charles enjoyed going to the lake, football games, car races, and riding his motorcycle with his friends. He was able to give to others by his choice for organ and tissue donation at his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Lee Bowman and his wife, C. Helen Short Bowman; and infant nephew, Edward William Bowman; and special friend, Kenny Lambert.
He is survived by one brother, Bernard K. Bowman and wife, Elizabeth (Libby) of Burke's Garden, Va.; one sister, Betty Bowman Patrick and husband, C. Lowell Patrick of Falls Mills, Va.; two nieces, Karen Bowman Davis of Lebanon, Va. and Sandra Lee Bowman of Glade Spring, Va.; one great-nephew, Joseph W. Davis and wife, Christina of Carlsbad, Calif.; special friend, Patricia Lambert who stood by his side till death; and his beloved dog, Jasmine.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Pastor Rick Mathena officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 25, 2013 after 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Bluefield, Virginia Rescue Squad, Bluefield, W.Va. Rescue Squad, or a favorite charity.
