MATOAKA —
A messenger from heaven visited our home today and left with us a promise as he took our dad away. He is going to a place of peace, no sorrow or no pain, because he called on Jesus, because he called His name.
James (Jimmy) Irvin Bennett, 76, died at his Marion, Va. home on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 12:56 p.m. with his son, Mark by his side. Born June 14, 1936 at Lamar, he was the son of the late Mack and Nora Tilley Bennett.
He worked as a coal miner until he became disabled by a mining injury. He was a proud member of the U.M.W.A.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Reba McKinney Bennett; daughters, Kathy and Patricia; sons, James (J.B.) and William (Willie) Bennett; brothers, Fred Bennett and Andy (Taze) Bennett and sisters, June Lafferty and Annie Cottle.
He leaves to mourn his loss the mother of his children, Geraldine (Bennett) Turner of Princeton; daughter, Veda Odle of Marion, Va.; sons, Roger Bennett and wife Becky of Lerona, Gary Bennett of Princeton, Mark Bennett and fiancée Robin McCoy, who cared for and provided a home for his dad in Marion, Va., and Eddie Bennett and wife Sherri who also assisted with his care in Matoaka; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Gracie Holcomb of Raleigh County, Joan Lusk of Bridgeport, Dathern Williams of Lindside, Macie Hall and Rosie Milam both of Banner Springs, Tenn., and Janie Thomas and Roy of Matoaka; brother, Floyd Bennett of Princeton; and also many nieces, nephews and friends to miss his presence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Marvin McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at the Bennett Family Cemetery at Matoaka. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Meadows, Johnny Howerton and Roger Howerton.
Friends may visit from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Monday, November 26 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
