KIMBALL —
Mason Rotenberry, 87, of Carswell Hollow Road, Kimball, W.Va., died Friday morning, February 8, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
Mr. Rotenberry was born November 21, 1925 in Carswell, W.Va., the son of the late Pete Rotenberry and Amanda Mullins Rotenberry. He was affiliated with the Baptist faith, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Sea Bees, and served during World War II. He was a retired coal miner from Consolidation Coal Co. at Itmann, W.Va. after 40 years of service. He was a resident of McDowell County all his life. He loved to work outdoors in his yard and garden, and he loved to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Rotenberry and 14 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by: His wife of 68 years, Patricia Young Rotenberry of the home; three daughters, Alecia Warf of Vinton, Va., Rachel Cornett and husband Joe of Anderson, S.C., Diana Slevin and husband Butch of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Rick Rotenberry and wife Sheron of Dothan, Alabama, Edward "Ed" Rotenberry and wife Paula of Athens, W.Va.; one sister, Alice Church of Hayward, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday (February 11, 2013) at 1:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, W.Va. with the Rev. Alvin Belcher officiating, he will be assisted by Edward Young. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. where military graveside services will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard and the W.Va. National Guard Honor Guard. Friends may call Monday at the Widener Funeral Home, Northfork, from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
