JEWELL RIDGE, Va. —
Mrs. Margaret F. Altizer, age 84, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Jay G. and Katherine Dorton Cole.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a life long resident of Jewell Ridge and Richlands area. She was a member of the Richlands Tabernacle and attended the Friendly Chapel Church on Smith Ridge. She ran the grill at the Jewell Valley Company Store for a number of years and worked at Reynolds Restaurant until it closed. She worked for Bob and Wayne Lester and the Fast Break at Doran, Virginia. She was a graduate of Whitewood High School Class of 1946 and was very active with the Jewell Ridge Recreation Commission.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lloyd Altizer; one sister, Mell Matney; five brothers, George, Harry, Jay Barnes, Paul and Robert Earl Cole; and three grandchildren, Lloyd Horn, Wade Horn, and Anita Lynn Hanna.
Survivors are: Three daughters: Joann Horn of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, Belinda Cole and husband, Bill of Abingdon, Virginia, Diannia Smith and husband, Mitch of Richlands, Virginia; one son: John Otis Altizer and wife, Patricia of Jewell Ridge, Virginia; three sisters: Reka Dye and husband, Claude of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, Katherine Brooks Jones of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Helen Justice and husband, Jonah of Phyllis, Kentucky; three brothers: Joe Cole and wife, Carol of Bland, Virginia, Grat Cole and wife, Margaret of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, Grady Cole and wife, Betty of Jewell Ridge, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Margaret Altizer will be conducted Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richlands Tabernacle in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Ralph Horton, the Rev. David Horton, and the Rev. Bob Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: Darrell Cantrell, Bob Lester, Wayne Lester, Phillip Horton, Brian McGraw, David Lee Horton, and Joe Robinett.
