NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. —
Virginia Juanita Childress, age 83, of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. after a brief illness. She was born August 3, 1929 in Richlands, Va. and was the daughter of the late Cletus and Lola Brown Dye.
Virginia was a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church at Gratton, Va. Virginia had worked as a homemaker and mother most of her life and loved to cook and work in her gardens. She enjoyed her family: Spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and many friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Carroll Dye; three brothers, Don Dye, June Dye, and Douglas Dye.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of over fifty-two years, Arland Lee Childress, whom she married on May 20, 1960; four sons, Larry Wayne Childress and wife, Michelle, Edward Howard Childress, and David Garland Childress and wife, Amy, all of Tazewell, Va., and Michael Thomas Childress of Cedar Bluff, Va.; seven granddaughters, Kathy Rose of Flat Lick, Ky., Sandy Jackson of Pineville, Ky., Daphne Childress of Roanoke, Va., Sara Andrews, Mandy Gates, Kelly Waddle and Marlea Childress, all of Tazewell, Va.; one grandson, Luke Harland Childress of Tazewell, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her special caregivers who provided her so much care and comfort in her times of need; many other family members; and many friends also survive.
Funeral services for Virginia Juanita Childress will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Elder Farley Beavers officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be John Baldwin Jr., Bill Mabe, Jimmy Rose, Gary Horn, Tony Stillwell, and Jerry Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Fox, Ralph Childress, and Charlie Howington.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013.
