BLUEFIELD, Va. —
On January 26, 2013, Dixie Flynn Neal Haun entered into her eternal home in heaven, following a brief stay at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born in Bluefield, Va. to Jessee L. and Ruby Caudill Neal, Dixie lived all of her life there. As a child, Dixie loved going to revivals with her grandmother, ride her scooter and roller skate. While in her teens, she competed and won local skating contests. She spoke many times of summer vacations at Cove Creek. She reminisced about cold creek swimming and the enjoyment of family and friends.
Dix graduated from Graham High School in 1949, where she was a member of the Glee Club and served as treasurer of the Debonaire Club.
In 1980, she started her professional career in Pediatrics at BRMC, where she shared the love she had for children. After her retirement, she was a stay at home grandma and began caring for and nurturing her grandchildren.
On Sept. 16, 1950, Dixie married Gerald Robert “Buck” Haun Sr., whom she declared at the young age of eight, would be the man she would marry. They began their 55-year marriage with love and dedication to one another. From that special love came six children, whom are left to treasure her memories: Robin Compton and husband Randy, Willian N. ‘Billy’ Haun and fiancée Sheryl Montross, Ginger Hicks and husband Steve, Jaime King, Kelli Henegar, son-in-law, Tommy Henegar, daughter-in-law, Susan Haun; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her special feline children, Ms. Daisy and Pearl Sue, all of Bluefield, Va. Dixie also leaves behind sisters, Coretta Dishman and Frances Scott, both of Bluefield, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck; son, Gerald R. ‘Bucky’ Haun Jr.; brothers-in-law, Robert Dishman and Paul Scott.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Larry Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Taylor Henegar, Zachary Compton, BJ Dishman, Bobby Mullins, Paul Cox, Gabe Hurt, Jarrod Richmond, Kenneth Lee Richmond II.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Dixie Flynn Neal Haun family.
