BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Adolphus “June” Bratton Jr., son of the late Adolphus McKinley Bratton and Annie Bratton, departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Rockdale Medical Center, Covington, Ga. Born on November 4, 1926 in Bluefield, Va., June attended the Tazewell County school system. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Virginia. June was a member of Newton County Senior Services where he attended weekly at Turner Lake.
June served in the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged. June was employed by Norfolk and Western and Norfolk and Southern Railroads, where he retired after 40 years of service.
June was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine; his parents; his brothers, Cortez and Eddie; and his sister, Yvonne Saunders.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Rev. Michael (Connie) Bratton, Bluefield, Va., Rev. Stephen (Helen) Bratton, Augusta, Ga.; one daughter, Sheila Newman, Covington, Ga.; five grandchildren, Michael Bratton Jr., Jay (Joy) Tindal, Michelle (Orville) Lyle, Terri Bratton and Brian (Ashley) Bratton; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Palmer and Nancy Grayson; one brother, Bobby (Yvonne) Bratton, Bluefield, Va.; one sister-in-law, Patricia Bratton, South Boston, Va.; one aunt, Stacy Bratton; a special cousin, Juanita Trigg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, January 28, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Virginia with the Rev. Michael L. Bratton and the Rev. Stephen C. Bratton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
