BLUEFIELD —
Doris A. Brown (Nannie), age 73, of Bluefield, W.Va., departed this life Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at her residence. Born April 5, 1939 in TipTop, Va., she was one of six children born to the late George and Alma Brown. She met and married Lowell E. Brown in Bluefield, W.Va. They were married for over 48 years.
Doris accepted the Lord at an early age and became a member of First AME Zion Church of Bluefield, W.Va. Doris was a faithful chairman of the Woman's Day Program for many years.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell E. Brown; two brothers, Hubert and Carl Brown; two sisters, Kathaleen Steptoe and Helen Buchanan; one son, Lowell S. (Peedee) Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted sister, Barbara J. Woods; her children, James A., Josephine L., John E. (Claudia), and Deborah (Trixie) Brown, all of Bluefield, W.Va.; Teresa A. and Frank Wilson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Bobby R. and Denise Brown, Steven D. and Leisa Brown and Doris A. Kearns of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren she raised as her own, LaTasha and Michael Brown; 29 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins to many to name. Doris had three special and dear friends, Evelyn Hearns, Betty Joe Harris, and Carolyn Betts.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Van Scott and the Rev. Justina Long officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va.
