NORTHFORK —
Elder Omar Landon Helm, 94, of Cherry Lane, Northfork, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Golden Harvest, Welch, W.Va. He was born on October 4, 1918 to Abe and Judy McDaniel Helm.
He attended McDowell County public schools and lived in McDowell County most of his life. He was a UMWA coal miner for 40+ years and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a life-long member of Uprising Chapel Church, Rolfe, W.Va. giving over 60 years of faithful service. At the time of his death, he was the Vice-President of Bluefield-Pinnacle Sub-District Union and Father of the West Virginia District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Helm; two sisters, Ruby Saunders and Angie Helm; two brothers, John Helm and
Richard Helm.
Left with cherished memories are: His loving wife of 24 years, Elder Ella Mae Helm; two devoted daughters, Deborah Helm of Bluefield, and Brenda Brown-Johnson of Woodbridge, Va.; one son, Brandon Brown of Statesville, N.C.; sisters, Corine Reid, Beulah Petty, Freda Thomas, Bernice (Vernell) Wright, all of Mansfield, Ohio, and Hazel Carroll of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Carolyn (Jerry) Jones, Brianna Brown, Antoine Helm, Ronald Johnson Jr., and Brandon Brown Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ayonna Helm, Lyric Jones, and William Helm; great-great grandsons, Ty-liek Helm, and Malik Helm; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; godchildren, Christy Helm and William Jackson; spiritual children, Elder Annette Brooks, Aaron Jackson, and Ramona Patterson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon (with viewing one hour prior to the service) on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at J.H. Easley Tabernacle, 109 Henderson Street, Princeton, W.Va. with Bishop Dwight Palmer and Elder Donna Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Littlesburg, Road, Bluewell, W.Va.
A.P. McConnell Funeral Home of Bluefield is serving the Helm family.
