BLUEFIELD —
Patricia Thomas Brewster, 68, of Bluefield, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2012, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, following emergency surgery.
Pat was born in Beckley on September 6, 1943, to Buford “Boots” and Irene Thomas.
She was a graduate of Princeton High School, and Concord College. She took advanced banking courses at the West Virginia School of Banking in Morgantown, and at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Pat worked in banking for many years at Mercer County Bank before moving to Valley Bank and Trust and then One Valley Bank. She finished her banking career at First Community Bank where she was responsible for corporate training.
Pat always had a flair for decorating and because of her ability to see color and use design; she worked with Andora Giffin at Corner Chair Designs in Bluefield, Virginia, for several years.
Pat was active for many years with the Children's Home Society in Princeton, and served as big sister to mentor young girls. She was also an animal lover and participated in the planning and building of the Mercer County Animal Shelter. She was active in the Mercer County Humane Society and served on the Board of Directors for several years. She leaves behind her beloved Murray and his sidekick Oscar.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Harold D. Brewster Jr., of Bluefield; her daughter, Miranda Stutler and husband, Tim of Princeton; granddaughter, Santana Staton and special friend, Dustin Caldwell of Bluefield; stepdaughter, Anne Brewster Rayome and husband, Robert of Alexandria, Va.; and stepson, Chris Brewster of Los Angeles, California.
Pat was a beautiful woman with wonderful class, taste and elegance. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In accordance to her wishes, Pat was cremated, but a memorial service to celebrate her life will be scheduled at a later date for her family and friends.
The family has asked that anyone interested in making a donation in Pat's memory send a contribution to the Mercer County Humane Society at P. O. Box 5723, Princeton, West Virginia 24740, to create a trust in her name to support the Humane Society in its work.
