BLUEFIELD —
James D. Sowers Jr., 96, of 2652 South Lane, Bluefield, W.Va., died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Mercer Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bluefield, W.Va.
Born March 13, 1916 in Virginia, he was the son of the late J.D. Sowers and Katherine Gilbert Sowers. Mr. Sowers worked for Bluefield Gas Company and was of the Baptist faith. He loved sports and had played football. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Lee Lambert Sowers; and four sisters, Inez Gilbert Sowers, Jeannett Sowers Felt, Margaret Sowers Cotton and Anna Lee Sowers Hale.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; and his best friends and caregivers, Sandy Spaulding and Beatrice Dunn.
A joint graveside service for Mr. James D. Sowers Jr. and Mrs. Dixie L. Sowers will be conducted on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley with Minister Tony Reed officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Mercer Funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
