MULLENS —
Henry Carl Anderson Jr., 89, of Mullens, passed away at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Princeton on Saturday, November 10, 2012 following a long illness.
Born May 10, 1923 at Tophet, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry C. Anderson Sr. and Lydia (French) Anderson.
Henry was previously employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Mullens. He also was a school bus driver for Wyoming Co. Schools and managed the Mullens Bowling Center. He was a member of the Mullens High School 1942 State Football Championship team, member of Loyal Order of Moose, member of American Legion, and member of Mullens Masonic Lodge.
A World War II veteran, Henry served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Fowler and USS Webber. In his leisure he was an avid golfer and bowler, and also took pride in his community and could often be seen trying to keep it clean.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Velma “Ruth” Anderson and his brother, Harry Anderson.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son, J.C. Anderson and his wife, Judy of Princeton; a daughter, Loretta Pauley and her husband, Mike of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; one brother, Gale Anderson; two sisters, Frances (Ward) White and Coney (Theodore) McAllister; one sister-in-law, Nettie Warf; eight grandchildren, Dr. Jeremy Morgan, Merrick Rice, Justin Morgan, Brittany Gay, David Anderson, Alese Jewell, Jabez Ryan Anderson, and Jordan Anderson; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be noon, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council.
