ROSEDALE, Va. —
Clarence James Herron, age 89, of Rosedale, Virginia, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Born July 4, 1923 in Lynch, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Bill Herron Sr. and Grace Rivers Herron Myers.
Mr. Herron was a veteran of World War II and served in Europe. He was a retired coal miner, an avid golfer and a member of Richlands Masonic Lodge No. 318, AF & AM. He was past Worthy Patron of the Richlands Eastern Star No. 104. He was a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ where he served as minister for 43 years, and was visiting minister for Cliffield and Wardell Churches of Christ. He was faithful to his trust, believing that God would take care of him as he traveled from Rosedale to Compton Mountain and back home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Herron Rumley and her husband John; and one brother, Bill Herron Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lola Wimmer Herron of Rosedale; one brother, Harold Herron of Jolo, W.Va.; grandson, John Wesley Rumley and wife Sue of Richlands; three nephews, Clarence “Jerry” Herron of Cedar Bluff, Larry Herron of Raysal, W.Va., and Stanley Herron of North Carolina; one niece, DeEtta Ratcliff of Bristol; and one sister-in-law, Emily Underwood of Cedar Bluff.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Minister Lucky Bunn and Minister Charlie Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jerry Herron, Larry Herron, Wesley Rumley, Steve White, Johnny Proffitt, Arthur Mullins, Troy Dotson and Carl Keen. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday with services at 7 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
