WAPAKONETA, Ohio —
Herbert F. “Spicie” Johnson Jr., age 81, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, formerly of Raven, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born in Bevinsville, Kentucky and was the son of the late Virginia Alexander Johnson and Herbert Johnson Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Army and worked as a general mechanic for Barnett, Inc. of Richlands, Virginia for many years and also worked part time as a mechanic on Gene Ball's farm. He had spent a good part of his life in the Raven area before moving to Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hess Johnson.
He is survived by: His son, Lewis W. Johnson and wife Paddy of Chillicothe, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson of Naples, Fla. and Sommer Green of Hillsborough, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Camryn Green and Christian Green. Several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive him.
Funeral services for Herbert “Spicie” Johnson Jr., will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640. Friends may call from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
