NARROWS, Va. —
Sadie Ellen Peck, 94, of Narrows, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 16th, 2013 at Springfield Center in Lindside, West Virginia.
She was born on October 18th, 1918 at Wayside, West Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Ashby Homer and Maude Elizabeth Gwinn Allen.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 21 years, Echols Erastus Peck; three cherished brothers and three loving sisters, Rufus Allen, James Allen, Jesse (Buster) Allen, Frances Vass, Hilda Arndt, and Louise Sherwood.
Sadie graduated from Greenville, West Virginia High School in 1938 and worked at MacArthur Inn in Narrows during the 1940s. She was a retired Narrows Town Hall employee, and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, where she had many loving memories of her church family. Sadie was very proud of her family, and loved spending time with them. One of her exciting times was Christmas. She loved decorations and giving gifts. Other passions were flowers, walking, and visiting friends. Special times with her siblings included playing “Setback” every time they spent time together.
Survivors include her son, James Echols Peck and wife Linda of Pembroke, Virginia; her daughter, Lisa Peck Hockman and husband George of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and a stepson, Travis Peck of Princeton, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Mitchell Hockman, Beth Osborne, Susan Adkins and Billie Jean Huskey; four great-grandchildren, Ciara Meredith, Jack Meredith, Hunter Adkins and Ali Adkins; four sisters, Betty Woodland and husband Dan, Jean Rigsby and husband Eugene, all of Mansfield, Ohio, Helen Houchins and husband Rufus of Wayside, West Virginia, and Rachael Blalock of Bluefield, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Kay Allen; many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19th, 2013 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, followed at 1 p.m. by the funeral service with the Rev. Chris Stanfield officiating. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. at the Wayside Methodist Church Cemetery in Monroe County, West Virginia.
