BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Marsha Ann Anderson, 56, of 144 Bethel Drive, Bluefield, Va., departed this world for a better one after a brief but fierce battle with Crohn's Disease on Tuesday August 31, 2010 at a Bluefield hospital.
Born January 28, 1954 in Christiansburg, Va., she was a daughter of Billy David Ballengee and Geneva Presley Ballengee of Grassy Meadows, W.Va. Mrs. Anderson was raised in Grassy Meadows in Greenbrier County. She had worked as a bookkeeper at Bluefield State College where she also attended classes, working towards her Associates Degree. She had also worked at Bluefield Supply Company. Her most important job, however, was being a wife and a mother and making a happy home for her family. She was an active member of War and Caretta United Methodist Church and was previously an active member of the Church of God as a minister's wife. Mrs. Anderson loved to needlepoint and work crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining her family. She dearly loved her five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Gus E. Anderson, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Charles J. Smothers, Jr.
In addition to her parents, those left to cherish her memory include her husband, the Reverend Gus E. Anderson, Jr. of the home; one son, Matthew Phillip Anderson and his wife Barbara of Bluefield, Va.; two daughters, Terah Leigh Anderson of the home and Jennifer Marie Marrs and her husband Brian of Charleston, W.Va.; siblings, Audrey Smothers of Bluefield, W.Va., Judy Meyers and her husband Lavoy of Bumpass, Va., Billy David Ballengee, Jr. of Rainelle, W.Va., Brenda Holliday and her husband Kevin of Smoot, W.Va., Sherral Nickell and her husband Jeff of Grassy Meadows, W.Va. and Melissa Crane and her husband Dane of Caldwell, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jonathon Burton, Rebecca Burton, Brittany Burton, Jenna Marrs, and Lauren Marrs; her mother-in- law, Rosalee Anderson of Bluefield, W.Va.; a host of extended family and friends; and her beloved dog, Patches.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Thursday evening September 2, 2010 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday September 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Dr. K.B. Arnold officiating.
Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. where family members and special friends will serve as pallbearers.
